01The collection

Hotels with a museum inside.

Derby Hotels Collection brings together eleven hotels and their apartments in Barcelona, Madrid and London, and each one holds its own art collection: pre-Columbian art at the Claris, Émile Gallé glass at the Bagués, art from Papua New Guinea at the Urban, Roman mosaics at The Caesar. Since 2025, Mariona Agency, the strategic and creative agency from Barcelona, has designed the publications that present the collection and the invitations to the party at La Terraza del Claris.

Three publications (the directory, the address book and the brandbook) and one task running through them all: bringing order to the page so that each hotel is seen before it is read.

02The directory

First, the image. Then, the information.

The directory presents the whole collection in 56 pages, in Spanish and English. In the new edition, each hotel opens with its photograph across a full page, with its name and stars laid over it. Services, contact details and booking codes move to the facing page, in the same order for every hotel.

Each city is announced by its abbreviation across a full page: BCN, MAD and LDN.

Order on the page

  1. BeforeText at the top, in three languages, and photographs below, all the same size.
  2. NowThe photograph across a full page; the information alongside, always in the same order.

03The address book

Each city, on its own map.

The pocket version of the directory, in sixteen pages. Each city opens with its photograph and abbreviation, as in the directory, followed by its map: the hotels numbered and, alongside, a brief entry for each one, with its photograph, phone number and address.

04The brandbook

Each hotel, a chapter.

The brandbook is the book of the collection: more than 130 pages in landscape format. Each hotel opens with its façade, or its most recognisable space, across a full page and, on the white page opposite, its name set vertically. Then comes a rhythm of image and text that lets every lounge, every guest room and every work of art breathe.

05La Terraza del Claris · 2025

What matters isn’t written: it’s shared.

Every September, the Hotel & Spa Claris holds a party on its terrace, open since 1992 in the heart of the Eixample: an oasis in the middle of the city. For the 2025 invitation, a wordsearch. Among random letters, the words that define it appear in black. You have to look for them, the way you discover a terrace high above the city.

Underneath, the line that sums it all up: “Entre línies, el que importa no s’escriu: es comparteix” (Between the lines, what matters isn’t written: it’s shared).

And its digital version: the words emerge from among the letters, followed by the text of the invitation.

06La Terraza del Claris · 2026

Under the same light.

2026 was the year of the solar eclipse in Spain, and the eclipse was the idea behind the invitation. To the ancient Egyptians, the Sun was life, knowledge and continuity. Here, the Sun is Derby Hotels Collection, and its rays are the clients, partners and teams who have built its story: one meeting point, under the same light.

It was one of three creative routes, alongside the hieroglyphs and the mirrors of the Claris. The chosen route: the eclipse.

  1. The Sun: Derby Hotels Collection.
  2. Its rays: the people who have built its story.
  3. The invitation: a black circle in a ring of gold.

A collection, told in good order.

The project

The challenge

A collection of unique hotels, each with its own architecture and art, needed publications to match: publications that would be seen before being read, and that would organise a great deal of information without losing the brand’s sense of calm. And an annual party that calls for a new idea every year.

The approach

Bringing order to the page: image first and information after, in the same order across the directory, the address book and the brandbook. And, for La Terraza del Claris, one idea a year that explains the party: a wordsearch in 2025 and an eclipse in 2026.

The result

Three publications that read as a single collection, and two invitations with a reason behind them, in print, in digital form and in the save-the-date.

Frequently asked questions

What has Mariona Agency done for Derby Hotels Collection?

Since 2025, Mariona Agency, the strategic and creative agency from Barcelona, has designed the collection’s directory, address book and brandbook, and the printed and digital invitations for the 2025 and 2026 parties at La Terraza del Claris, with their save-the-date.

What is Derby Hotels Collection?

A collection of city hotels in Barcelona, Madrid and London (including the Hotel & Spa Claris, the Hotel Bagués, the Urban Hotel and The Caesar) in which each hotel displays its own art collection.

Why is the 2026 invitation an eclipse?

Because 2026 was the year of the solar eclipse in Spain. In the invitation, the Sun is Derby Hotels Collection and its rays are the clients, partners and teams who have built its story: all under the same light.

How do you bring order to a publication with so much information?

By separating the image from the data. Each hotel opens with a full-page photograph and the information goes on the facing page, always in the same order: first you look, then you read.
