Rebranding and brand evolution

Change with purpose. Stay recognisable.

A rebrand updates the way a brand defines and presents itself when its reality has changed. At Mariona Agency we review positioning, identity and applications to decide what should evolve and what deserves to continue. From Barcelona, we work alongside companies that need to express more clearly who they are today and prepare for their next chapter.

When the brand falls behind

The company broadens its offer, reaches new audiences or changes in size, but its image still tells the story of an earlier version of the business. Sometimes the problem lies in the identity; at other times, in an unclear value proposition or in an accumulation of messages and applications with no common direction.

Before redesigning, we analyse that gap. We look at the recognition that already exists and the difficulties the team runs into when communicating. With that diagnosis we can propose a proportionate evolution: from adjusting the visual system to revisiting the brand’s architecture and narrative.

How we think about rebranding

Over the years, a brand builds up layers that no longer explain it.

We separate what makes it recognisable from what only weighs it down.

Only what needs to change changes; what people already recognise stays.

Animation: an emblem loaded with ornament loses whatever is superfluous, layer by layer; its essential form is kept in orange, renewed and carried onto the website, the business card and the sign.

Clear Flow and Human First

Clear Flow

A rebrand shouldn’t add complexity. We review every element with one simple question, whether it helps people recognise and understand the brand, and we plan the change so it reaches every application without confusing in-between stages.

Human First

Behind a brand there are customers who know it and teams who stand up for it. We look after that memory: we explain the change internally before showing it to the outside world, and we keep what people already feel is theirs.

What can change in a rebrand

  1. Positioning and message

We update the value proposition and the way it is explained. The brand has to reflect the real business and offer an argument that makes sense to the audiences it wants to reach.

  2. Recognisable assets

We assess the name, symbol, colour and other elements people already associate with the company. We decide how to keep, reinterpret or replace them, depending on the objective of the project.

  3. Visual and verbal system

We develop a coherent identity and a language that resolve the problems identified. We check how they work with the offer and the content the brand actually uses.

  4. Transition across applications

We set out which items need renewing and the order of the roll-out. Packaging, website, presentations or signage may need different timings, and a period in which old and new versions coexist.

Renewal is also designed from the inside

A change of brand needs to be understood by the people who will use it. Explaining the decisions, along with guides and working materials, is part of getting it adopted. We plan the transition with clear priorities so the launch is in line with the team’s operational capacity and resources.

How we support the change

  1. Understand

We audit the current brand, its applications and the reasons for the evolution.

  2. Clarify

We define what to keep, what to transform and what the change should achieve.

  3. Design

We develop the new expression and test it against relevant uses.

  4. Refine

We review recognition, consistency and the feasibility of the transition.

  5. Launch

We prepare the agreed materials and a roll-out sequence.

Positioning and identity

Tutichip

For Tutichip we worked on positioning, the rebrand and the visual identity. The brand platform connected the company’s know-how with the way it treats its customers; the graphic system grew out of the silhouette of its own snacks.

Questions about rebranding

Does rebranding mean changing everything?

No. It can mean a deep transformation or a measured evolution. The scope depends on the problem to be solved and the value of the current elements.

How do we avoid losing recognition?

By identifying which signals have value for the brand’s audiences and testing how they evolve in context. Continuity is decided on specific criteria, and it is looked after in the way the change is communicated, too.

Does everything have to be updated at once?

It is not always feasible, or necessary. We can set priorities and phases, taking into account product stock, sales calendars and the applications that are critical to the brand experience.
